Why the World Partnership Walk Means So Much to Me

For as long as I can remember, the World Partnership Walk has been more than just an annual event in our community — it has been a part of my story, my family’s legacy, and my heart.

What makes this journey even more meaningful to me is knowing that it began right here in Vancouver. One of my aunts was among the founding women who helped bring this vision to life. What started as an idea rooted in compassion, dignity, and hope has grown into something far greater than anyone could have imagined. To witness that legacy continue generation after generation is deeply emotional and incredibly humbling.

I have personally been involved with the Walk team for over 30 years in one capacity or another. From childhood memories of volunteering alongside family and friends, to now helping carry the mission forward as an adult, the Walk has always represented service, unity, and humanity at its very best.

But what moves me most is not just the event itself — it is the impact.

Every single dollar raised has gone on to benefit millions of individuals around the world. Families have gained access to clean water, education, healthcare, food security, and opportunities to build sustainable futures. Behind every donation is a real person, a real family, and a real story of hope.

In a world that can sometimes feel divided, the Walk reminds me that compassion still exists. It reminds me that when people come together with sincere hearts and a shared purpose, incredible change is possible.

For me, this is not simply a fundraiser. It is a continuation of a legacy built on love, service, and the belief that every human being deserves dignity and opportunity. It is about teaching our children the importance of giving back. It is about honouring those who came before us and inspiring those who will come after us.

This Walk has shaped who I am. It has shown me the beauty of community and the power of collective action. And after more than three decades, I still believe just as strongly as ever that even the smallest contribution can help transform lives.

This year, I walk with gratitude.
I walk with purpose.
I walk for those whose voices are often unheard.
And I walk in honour of the legacy that began generations ago.
