What does fundraising mean to us?
1. Faith in Action: The Principle of Sadaqah
At its core, fundraising is a modern vehicle for the Ismaili tradition of giving. It is the practice of generosity (Sadaqah)—not as an act of charity from the "high to the low," but as a shared responsibility to improve the quality of life for all.2. Empowering Global Citizenship
As students at York, we are part of a global "Jamat." Fundraising allows us to look beyond the walls of the Keele, Glendon, or Markham campuses. Whether we are supporting the Aga Khan Foundation or local Toronto initiatives, we are participating in a global movement to alleviate poverty and promote self-reliance.
3. Building Community
The process of fundraising is often just as important as the funds themselves. It’s about:
Unity: Coming together as students to work toward a common goal.
Awareness: Using our platform to educate our peers at York about social issues.
Leadership: Developing the skills to organize, advocate, and lead with empathy.
4. Stewardship and Responsibility
To us, fundraising means being stewards of resources. We recognize that we are in a position of privilege as university students, and we have a duty to ensure that resources are channeled to where they are needed most, with full transparency and purpose. No matter what amount you give, every donation makes a difference!
