Small steps, big changes

This year, my daughter and I are participating together for the first time in the World Partnership Walk (WPM).

WPM is a non-profit organization that supports communities in Africa and Asia in the fight against poverty. It funds sustainable projects in essential areas such as access to education, clean water, healthcare, and food security. Its approach focuses on helping communities become self-sufficient and building a better future for generations to come. This vision deeply moved me and inspired me to get involved from a young age. At 10 years old, I started with a goal of raising $100, and ten years later, I had the privilege of raising nearly $15,000.

Over the years, I volunteered with several organizations, but what deeply impacted me about WPM is its lasting impact. It helps communities become more independent — a value that is very important to me.

This commitment also helped me step out of my comfort zone and become actively involved from a young age. In high school, I also had the opportunity to be part of my school’s student council as mayor, which gave me more responsibility and freedom to organize various fundraising events. Over the years, I took part in several initiatives with the help of my family and friends, such as presentations in all the classrooms of my school, Pizza Hut buffets, bake sales, car washes, various food and snack sales, talent shows, door-to-door fundraising, and much more.

Today, as a first-time mother, I would like to pass on this beautiful cause — which has shaped a big part of who I am — to my daughter, Aliza. She is just beginning to take her first steps, and I hope they will be meaningful and contribute, in their own way, to making a difference. And what could be more meaningful than seeing those very first steps take place, quite literally, within the WPM.
